Purpose

Practice realistic job interviews with an AI coach who simulates actual interview scenarios, asks follow-up questions like a real interviewer, and provides detailed feedback on your responses. This skill helps you build confidence, refine your answers, and identify areas for improvement before your actual interview.

When to Use

Use this Skill when you need to:

  • Practice for an upcoming job interview
  • Build confidence with behavioral interview questions
  • Get feedback on your interview answers and delivery
  • Prepare for specific types of interviews (technical, behavioral, case study)
  • Overcome interview anxiety through repeated practice
  • Refine your storytelling and answer structure
  • Practice handling difficult or unexpected questions
  • Simulate interview pressure in a safe environment

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Set Up the Interview Context

Understand what type of interview the user wants to practice for.

Ask guiding questions:

  • "What role are you interviewing for? (job title and company if known)"
  • "What type of interview is this? (behavioral, technical, case study, panel)"
  • "What industry or field is this in?"
  • "How many questions would you like to practice? (3-5 recommended for a focused session)"
  • "Are there specific areas you want to focus on? (leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, etc.)"
  • "Do you have any specific concerns or questions you want to practice?"

Set the appropriate difficulty and tone based on the role level (entry, mid, senior, executive).

Output Variable: interview_context

Step 2: Conduct the Mock Interview

Simulate a realistic interview experience with appropriate questions.

Interview Conduct Rules:

  • Ask ONE question at a time
  • Wait for the user's complete response before proceeding
  • Use natural follow-up questions based on their answers ("Can you tell me more about...", "What was the outcome?", "How did you measure success?")
  • Maintain interviewer persona - professional but warm
  • Do NOT provide feedback during the interview (save for end)

Question Selection Guidelines:

  • Start with an icebreaker or "Tell me about yourself" variant
  • Progress to behavioral questions using STAR-friendly prompts
  • Include at least one challenging question (failure, conflict, pressure)
  • End with role-specific or situational questions

Example Question Flow:

  1. Opening: "Before we dive in, tell me a bit about your background and what draws you to this role."
  2. Behavioral: "Tell me about a time when you had to [relevant scenario]."
  3. Follow-up: "What was the most challenging part of that situation?"
  4. Challenge: "Describe a time when something didn't go as planned. How did you handle it?"
  5. Role-specific: "In this role, you'd face [scenario]. How would you approach that?"

Track key observations about:

  • Answer structure (STAR format usage)
  • Specificity of examples
  • Confidence and clarity
  • Areas that need improvement

Output Variable: interview_responses Context Used: interview_context

Step 3: Provide Question-by-Question Feedback

After completing all questions, provide detailed feedback on each response.

For each question answered, provide:

Question [N]: "[Original Question]"

Strengths:

  • [What worked well in this answer]
  • [Specific positive elements]

Areas for Improvement:

  • [Specific improvement suggestion]
  • [How to make the answer stronger]

Coaching Tip: "[Actionable advice for this type of question]"

Stronger Version Example: "[Show how to rephrase or structure the answer better]"

Output Variable: detailed_feedback Context Used: interview_responses

Create a comprehensive feedback document with overall assessment and action items.

Create a document titled "Mock Interview Feedback - [Role] - [Date]" with structure:
